Dance with Ruby Donohoe

Thursday 16 September - 2:30PM

This workshop is for all dancers and performers who wish to reconnect with their bodies and explore movement in a safe, creative environment. Led by facilitator Ruby Donohoe, participants of all ages and abilities are welcome.

You will leave with a greater understanding of movement in performance, discover how your own body moves and the confidence to follow your instincts on the stage.

ABOUT RUBY

Ruby Donohoe, she/her, is a performer and interdisciplinary performance-maker whose practice is rooted in the politics of encounter and in offering defiant acts of sensitisation. As an epileptic dancer who wrestles with her body, the embodied experience is central to her work. Using text, choreography, and audio, Ruby makes experiential spaces as external installation and internal choreographies.

Ruby has created work in New York, Porto, Seoul, Tokyo, Vancouver, and throughout Australia with artists such as Anne Bogart and SITI Company (NYC), Aha Ensemble, Dairakudakan (JAP), Dancenorth, Doppelgangster (UK/AUS), Dead Puppet Society, Gogi Dance Collective, The Good Room, Jenni Large, Justene Williams, Kerith Manderson-Galvin, Lucas Stibbard, Playlab Theatre, Phluxus2 Dance Collective, Strings Attached, MKA: Theatre of New Writing, The Only Animal (CAN), Younes Bachir (SPN) and Zen Zen Zo. She has performed at La Boite, Metro Arts, Institute of Modern Art (IMA), Brisbane Powerhouse, Supercell Festival, HOTA, New Ohio Theatre (NYC), Dixon Place (NYC), Seoul Arts Centre, La Mama (MLB), and Sydney Fringe Festival.

Her recent performance works include LUNG WATER (2021 Horizon Festival), By-Negotiation with Odessa Mahony-de Vries (LJ Projects), JERK (in-development with support from Sunshine Coast Council RADF and Access Arts), Let Me Sell You (It’s Your Burial) with Nadia Milford (2021 Supercell Festival), and An Act Of Intimacy (2020 Placemakers*).

Ruby is a scholarship graduate of the 2016/17 biennial SITI Company Performance Conservatory (NYC) and graduated with distinction from a BFA in Drama and minoring in Scenography (QUT, 2014). She has participated in specialist professional development courses The Path for visual artists (Sunshine Coast Council and Kellie O’Dempsey), dance-film program -SCAPE (Supercell Festival and The Samaya Wives), playwright Incubator Program (Playlab Theatre) and Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre Performance Internship. Ruby is a co-curator at new ARI The Old Lock-Up on Kabi Kabi country in Cotton Tree with visual artists June Sartracom and Petalia Humphreys.
