Allyship 101

Wednesday 24 August 2022 - 10:00AM-2:00PM

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

Presented by Bree Hadley, this one-day workshop is a powerful professional development opportunity for artists, arts workers, and support workers who support the success of d/Deaf, disabled, and neurodiverse artists, and for artists who seek to gain confidence in self-advocacy, leadership, and designing disability-led creative collaborations.

It will introduce and define a range of allyship roles, relationships, and skills in disability arts, and indeed in the wider arts sector. It will offer participants tools to reflect on their own approach to allyship, and establishing safe, respectful, successful artist-ally collaborations.

Participants will learn to understand their role in developing safe, meaningful arts practices. This will include strategies, tools, and techniques to address cultural safety, trust, agency, and power dynamics, as well as the accessibility of venues, processes, projects, programs, and organisations.

This workshop will quickly become a prerequisite for anyone wanting to create a safe, and meaningful arts practice in collaboration with artists with disability – along with emerging artists looking to gain more confidence in self-advocacy, and leading creative projects.
