About the workshop

Have you ever wondered what a producer actually does? Let’s find out together! 

In this short session, independent artist and producer Andi Snelling will introduce the basics of producing – what it means, why it’s important, and how to make the most of your relationship with your producer. If you want to self-produce, you’ll also get some handy tips to help you manage the load and juggle your creative and producing brains.

This workshop is delivered accessibly and is open to all. It is programmed with independent artists in mind who wish to better understand the role of a producer or to develop producing skills themselves.  

Topics include: 

  • What is the role of a producer? 
  • How-To: Develop a Show Budget. 
  • How-To: Produce Accessible Projects. 
  • How-To: Find Grants and Funding Opportunities.

What does a producer do?  

  • Learn where to find grants and other funding
  • Learn how to apply for grant funding
  • View a show budget template and get tips to develop your own
  • Introduce the MEAA and Live Performance Award minimum rates
  • Learn how to manage cast and crew
  • Learn how to develop a tickets sales strategy and box office targets
  • Learn about the producer’s role in marketing a show
  • Learn how to develop creative schedules

Facilitator

Andi Snelling

Andi Snelling is a multi-award winning performer, writer, and director. She is a recent Australia Council for the Arts Future Leader and a highly sought after speaker, facilitator, and passionate voice within the disability arts space. She trained at prestigious UK drama school, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Her acting career highlights include: Edith in Picnic at Handing Rock (BBC), Brinda in Neighbours (Femantle Media), Esemble in Crazy for You (London Palladium), and Inflight Voice for Qatar Airways.

 

As a theatre-maker of four critically-acclaimed solo shows, Andi is known for capturing the humans condition by exploring the personal as universal, with her 5x award-winning physical theatre show Happy-Go-Wrong still touring nationally, alongside her hit one-on-one poetry experience, type-a-poet. Andi also runs her own business Kick Up The Arts, where she coaches artists and creatives to find their artistic voice and make their dream projects happen.

Who are these workshops for?

We program these workshops with disabled and d/Deaf artists and artsworkers in mind, but we very happily welcome all artists and artsworkers who are interested in attending.

All events have a REGISTER NOW button at the top of the page.

Is the online session on Zoom or Teams?

The online sessions will be run on Teams. You will fill out a form and be sent a link post registration. 

Yes, the online session will be recorded. It will be shared privately with all registered attendees.

 

It may take a week or two to become available so that we can ensure that the captions work.
